This bench is dedicated in honor of the Redheart Band of the Nez Perce, who chose not to fight in the Nez Perce War of 1877, but were still held by the U.S. Army at Ft. Vancouver from August 1877 to April 1878. The trees are in memory of an infant boy who died during imprisonment and is buried nearby in an unknown grave.
